About the Crop Sciences Student Ambassadors
- General Description:
- Crop Sciences Student Ambassadors are undergraduate students majoring in Crop Sciences who participate in a range of activities to promote the department. The students come from diverse backgrounds and are enrolled in different undergraduate options in the department. The Ambassadors are knowledgeable about programs in the Department of Crop Sciences (e.g. options in the major, internships, research opportunities, scholarships) and about life as undergraduate students at the University of Illinois.
Activities:
- Tour visiting high school and community college students (and parents) around the department and campus, including housing.
- Participate in visits with students, teachers and counselors either at the University of Illinois or at Illinois high schools or community colleges.
- Talk with prospective students at exhibits, including ExplorAces.
- Write letters and call freshman and transfer students accepted into the department.
- Send emails to intra- and inter-college transfer students accepted into the department.
- Attend the annual New Student Orientation.
- Develop a resource list for all new students in the department that includes the Ambassadors' names, phone numbers, email addresses, options and organizations in which they are involved.
- Develop and maintain a list of Frequently Asked Questions that includes information new students should know about the department, college and campus.
- Serve as mentors for new students who express interest in being matched with a more senior student.
- Meet with the Department of Crop Sciences State Advisory Committee.
